The Department of Japanese Studies, which used to belong to the Faculty of Oriental Studies in 1994, was independently established on September 27th 2010, and upgraded to faculty on August 27th 2015. The Faculty of Japanese Studies (JPS) produces highly qualifed graduates and innovative research on Japan, promotes exchange among academic disciplines, and develops new approaches to the understanding of Japan in Asia and the world.

 

Currently, the Faculty has 4 departments including:

 

1. Japanese Economy – Politics

2. Japanese History – Culture

3. Japanese Basics

4. Applied Japanese Language.

 

The Faculty consists of 22 members and soon expects to increase to 30 members. Moreover, the Faculty has numerous visiting lecturers who have good qualifcation and experiences in education and research.

 

The Faculty of Japanese Studies offers Bachelor’s degree which covers a broad range of disciplines including Japanese linguistics, history, culture, literature, religion, politics and international relations.

 

Every year, it receives approximately 100 undergraduate students in its full-time program and another 200 students in its part-time programs. At the present, the Faculty has good relationships with research staffs of Vietnam National University and other universities in Vietnam. It also has close ties with the Consulate General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City, different universities in Japan and many Japanese foundations which offer scholarships and fnancial support in publishing and organizing conferences.
