University of Social Sciences and Humanities to organize the 8th International Conference on Korean Studies

On January 18, 2018, Dr. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan, Vice President of University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNUHCM and representatives from the Office of International Cooperationsand Project Development, had a meeting with representatives from the Korean Studies Association of Southeast Asia (KoSASA).

As a representative of KoSASA, Prof. Kwon Geong Ho, Director of the Korea Research Institute, University of New South Wales has discussedabout organizing the 8th International Conference on Korea Studies.


Based on the long-term collaborative relationship between the two institutions, Dr. Ngo Thi Phuong Lan affirmed that representatives of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities would attend the conference. In addition to emphasizing the tie relationship of both sides, the Vice President said that the University would coordinate and support the event. At the same time, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will also invite lecturers, researchers interested in the topics of the conference.


The workshop is scheduled for three days from 26 to 28, September 2018 at Chulalongkorn University (Bangkok, Thailand, aiming to strengthen co-operation among KoSASA's core member partners through the exchange and exploringnew orientations to promote Korea studies in Southeast Asia in the future. The upcoming workshop will focus on some contemporary and vital issues in modern Korean economy, society and culture from the perspective of Southeast Asia.

The workshop agenda is tentatively divided into four sessions: (i) Rector Forum, in which representatives from nine leading universities in Southeast Asia will present international research collaboration strategies, (ii) Seminar on Korean Education in Southeast Asia; (iii) Seminar on the results of collaboration in the field of social sciences and humanities among key universities in Southeast Asia, (iv) Seminar on Korean language,assessing the situation and sharingexperiences in Korean language training in Southeast Asia, Australia and Korea.

KoSASA is an academic organization/forum founded in 2004, which bases on the collaboration between the University of New South Wales, Australia and the Korea Foundation. KoSASA is responsible for supporting, promoting research, teaching Korean and applying Korean knowledge in Southeast Asian countries. KoSASA organizes a biannual conference to review and evaluate the activities of its partner institutions during the term, and to develop, propose the deployment of new cooperative missions. In Vietnam, both the Universities of Social Sciences and Humanities from Vietnam National University, Hanoi and VNUHCM are two active partners of KoSASA, which hosted the conference to establish KoSASA in 2004 in Ho Chi Minh City and the 2012 annual conference in Hanoi.
