The Department of Physical Education of USSH, VNUHCM was established in June 1996 and has developed ever since. At the present, the Department has 15 full-time members.

Its functions and responsibilities is:

1. to build up the training program, to teach and to help the students do exercises, and to know the methods and practice to improve their physical condition;

2. to train students gifted in sports to form teams of strong members, with good spirit and characteristics to compete with other universities in regional and national tournaments;

3. to establish various sport clubs to attract and promote students to practice and develop some movements such as: Volleyball, Football, Pingpong, Badminton, Martial Arts, etc;

4. to support to building up and to instruct sport teams of young staff to compete and participate in tournaments;

5. to organize competitions for University staff and students in celebrating major national holidays.
